Mammoths and tigers? Oh my!

There is a strange feeling working with a material that comes from an extinct animal, especially an animal as mystical and wonderful as the woolly mammoth.

As I hold ivory in my hands I feel a connection to something bigger than me. The woolly mammoths were roaming the planet not too long ago in the grand scheme of things, and now they are but a blip of our Earth’s history.

I want to make sure that my work acknowledges their extinction and do my part to help the wildlife we are lucky to walk the Earth with, which is why I will donate a portion of all of my ivory sales to non-profit organizations that support wild animals.

I was introduced to the problem of captive tigers in America when I was in college, and have a special place in my heart for these powerful cats. There are currently more tigers living captive in America as pets or bred for profit at illegal petting zoos then later slaughtered when the owners can no longer afford to feed them than there are wild cats in Africa.

The popular Netflix documentary, Tiger King, touched upon this issue; but the neglect happening every day in America to exotic animals is more than just quarantine entertainment.

My aunt and uncle dedicate their lives to trying to solve the problem of captive tigers bred in America and I am proud to donate a portion of my sales to their organization as they work to save Tigers in America.

Learn more about out their organization here.
